Our vision is to create a maker + social entrepreneurship space explicitly for women of color where we have the support, resources, and community needed to take creative risks, build wealth, and change the world on our own terms.

We currently live in an era in which income and wealth inequality are the largest in the history of the United States. The wealthiest 10% of U.S. households own 76% of all wealth in the country. When you account for race and gender, the statistics are even more dire. Single black and Latina women have a median wealth of $100 and $120 respectively as compared to $41,500 median wealth for white women. Remember wealth means your assets (house, car, retirement, cash in the bank, etc) minus your debts. Nearly half of all single black and Latina women actually have zero or negative wealth. Many of us from communities of color have felt the deep impact of this - with mothers working multiple jobs, not being able to afford sick days, or taking jobs to pay the bills instead of jobs that build on their skills and passions. Fresh to Def Collective seeks to support women and girls of color to become social entrepreneurs that can either make a living or supplement their income doing something they love.
